THE BOARD OF MANAGEMENT FINANCE SUB-COMMITTEE
The BOM finance sub committee has responsibility for overseeing all matters in relation to school finances. The committee, on behalf of the board of management, oversees budgets and accounts and provides advice and guidance to the BOM and the school principal in the management of day to day spending. They also have responsibility for the coordination of general fundraising as well as the raising and disbursal of Parent Donation funds (hereafter referred to as the “Parent Resource Fund”) which support a wide range of day to day school activities. It will come as a surprise to many that much of the equipment and resources which would be regarded as essential in any teaching environment has to be funded by parents as it is not provided by the Department of Education. In fact we need to privately raise anything up to 40% of all annual expenditure in the school. A recently formed sports finance sub committee provides monthly reports to the BOM finance sub committee on the extensive expenditure on sport. The sports finance sub committee also coordinate fundraising for sport including the annual sports dinner, the golf classic and the management of the school sports shop.
In the past the Parent Finance Committee, through its activities, facilitated the expenditure of € 2.5 million on major capital projects including the construction and fit out of the new library, the new dining hall, the astro-turf facility, the essential drainage of playing pitches and more recently the much needed upgrading of the sports changing rooms. That parent finance committee has effectively evolved into the BOM finance sub committee which has 11 members, seven of whom are parents.
The current BOM finance sub-committee officers are: Helen O’Donnell (Chair of BOM), Maeve McDonnell, Richard Fahy, John Lyons, Chris Cullinan (Staff) Nuala McGann (Staff) and Karin Fleming (Principal).
Historically the Parent Resource Fund was accounted for on an academic year basis, however as the school accounts are run on a calendar year basis it was decided to bring the Parent Resource Fund in line with the school accounting year end. The last available audited Parent Resource Fund accounts are for 2015 .
