The Crescent Past Pupils Union
On February 27th 2006 the refounded Crescent Past Pupils' Union met at the school. The photograph shows Ronan Hanrahan (1986), Dermot Cowhey (Headmaster and 1976) Helen Kelly Holmes(Convenor, 1986) , and Dermot Fehily 1985.
The Crescent Past Pupils' Union
is an association of past pupils and teachers from the Sacred Heart College and the Crescent College Comprehensive in Limerick.
The objectives of the Crescent Past Pupils' Union are:
- To provide a social and welcoming place where past pupils and teachers can connect and communicate;
- To be a bridge between the current pupils and teachers and past pupils and teachers;
- To help to maintain the Jesuit culture of the Crescent College Comprehensive and the past pupils' community through links with Jesuit schools and past pupils' associations in Ireland and internationally;
- To engage in fundraising activities which are of benefit to Crescent College Comprehensive, to the past pupils and teachers of the Sacred Heart College and Crescent College Comprehensive, and the wider community;
- To recognise and celebrate the achievements and contributions of past pupils and staff in the wider community;
- To foster the tradition of voluntarism which has been a long and valued one in Jesuit education and to honour work done by members of the Crescent community in this area;
- To develop and maintain a strong national and international network of support for Crescent pupils and teachers past and present.
- To support the 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50+ year reunions of Sacred Heart College and Crescent College Comprehensive past pupils;
At the First meeting on February 27th, 2006
the Union made the following decisions:
+ The Union will maintain a section of Books by Past Pupils in the school Library. Helen Kelly Holmes will organise this, and she would like to hear of Past Pupils who have published books.
+ The Union will update the News of the Past page on the school web site, and they will assist in getting a correspondent from each year to collect items for this page. Volunteers who are willing to act as correspondents are asked to look at the Contact Us page on this web site.
+ The Union will begin to honour outstanding achievements by Past Pupils at specially convened events in the school.
+ The Union will meet again on April 3rd and will consider a draft Mission Statement at that meeting.
