Crescent Students win All Ireland Golf Title

Crescent students Eimear McManus, Nessa McGann, Clodagh Moloneyand Nicole Power were the core of the Limerick County ladies Golf Team that won the All Ireland title in August. The girls will represent the school in the upcoming Munster Championships.

At assembly today the principal announced details of the College golf tournaments and called all Golfers to a meeting to take place next week. Watch this space for more information

Sports gear and Jackets on sale Tuesday

Next Tuesday at 3.30pm the hockey, rugby and soccer kits will be in sale in the school canteen. We will send texts to parents from time to time to tell them when the shop will open. .

You can order / buy all the school kit direct from our supplier. In addition we will have a limited number of 2nd hand school jackets for sale from early next week. More details to follow

Youth Olympics 2010 – Singapore

Best of luck to Roisin Upton (pictured above, bottom right corner) who will be representing Ireland at the Youth Olympics 2010, in Singapore. The Girls Hockey preliminary rounds begin Monday August 16th, with Ireland due to play The Netherlands at 4.00pm local time. If you want to view the full schedule of games, please click here. We hope that Roisin has a fabulous tournament, and look forward to welcoming her back to the school in September, win, lose or draw!

McNamara Leading Rider at Galway

Robbie McNamara was this evening crowned the leading jumps jockey at the 2010 Galway Festival, riding five winners from just six rides! What marks this out as a truly outstanding sporting achievement is that Robbie continues to ride as an amateur and would not be in a position to ride in as many races as his professional colleagues, yet he still ended the week as top jumps jockey ahead of the likes of Tony McCoy, Barry Geraghty and Davy Russell. The cumulative odds of this staggering feat were 4469/1. This is yet another wonderful milestone in the burgeoning career of this talented past pupil who is beginning to look like one of the most gifted amateur jockeys to ever ride a horse on a racetrack in Ireland. Well done Robbie!

Success at Woodie’s DIY Irish Schools’ Track and Field Championships 2010

Jane Dickinson, Brona Croke, Aisling Croke, Laura Nevin, Lilly Ann O’Hora, Jessica Coyne and Greg O’Shea represented the school in Tullamore at the All Ireland Finals on 5 June. It must be acknowledged that qualification for an All Ireland is a major achievement in itself and the school recognises this fact. Congratulations are extended to all the athletes for the success they have brought to the school this year. The following won medals in Tullamore:

Aisling Croke: won gold in the Intermediate high jump.

Laura Nevin: won silver in both the Junior 100m and 200m.

Jessica Coyne: won bronze in the Junior 800m.

Greg O’Shea: won bronze in the 200m and silver in the 100m.

LillyAnn O’Hora: won silver in the Intermediate Sprint Hurdles

Jane Dickinson ran in both the 100m and 200m and just missed out on a medal and Brona Croke competed very well in the 3000m.

Girls basketball squad win Final at UL Arena

1st Year girls basketball squad with their coach Mr Tony Hehir.

On Fri,May 7th,The 1st Year girls basketball squad won the County Final at UL Arena.
They beat SMI of Newcastle West,on a scoreline of 35-8.

They were undefeated all through the campaign,having got the better of Askeaton,Presentation and Castletroy College
on their way to the final.

Robbie McNamara wins Punchestown Champion ‘Bumper’

Past pupil Robbie McNamara won the Grade 1 Champion National Hunt Flat Race at the Punchestown festival last Wednesday, riding the 5/1 shot Hidden Universe. This is the top race in Ireland for young Irish National Hunt (INH) horses and their amateur jockeys, commonly referred to as ‘Bumper’ races. Robbie gave the horse an impeccable ride, leading from the outset and steadily increasing the pace as the race progressed. Even though Hidden Universe (trained by Dermot Weld) was a major disappointment at the Cheltenham festival in March, Robbie displayed incredible confidence in his mount throughout and won going away by two lengths. It provided Robbie with a quick ‘Bumper’ double at the festival as he also rode the winner of the previous night’s ‘Bumper’, Spanish Treasure, for trainer Eddie Hales.

Robbie’s victories capped a truly memorable month for the McNamara family. As previously reported on this website, his older brother Andrew won the Irish Grand National on Easter Monday at Fairyhouse.

Jessica Coyne in Irish Athletics Team in Truro

Jessica Coyne competed in the Schools International Cross Country representing Crescent Comprehensive S.J. on the Junior Irish Team in Truro, Cornwall in the UK on the 27th March 2010 the weekend of Mid-term break-up.

Jessica with her team mates achieved team bronze international schools medals in the 3500m challenging course with three stiff hills. All the team were presented with the Irish track suit and gear and competed in the Irish vest.
It was a great achievement against stiff competition.
Congratulations to all team members.
