With the darkening evenings we approach the season of Advent and our anticipation of Christmas.
Though this should be a joyful time of year as we prepare for the birth of Jesus, we are acutely aware that some families will be dreading Christmas, and for various reasons; perhaps they have lost loved ones, are in challenging financial circumstances or are worried about family members. For everyone else, just the extra workload and commitments can cause pressure. So we hope that for our students at least school can be a place where they can enjoy the run-up to Christmas, where they will find comfort and reassurance, are able to concentrate on their studies and also on their charitable work on behalf of those less fortunate.
The Christmas celebrations will get under way in earnest when our tree is erected in the Central Area and with our annual Carol Concert, which this year is on Monday 9 December. All are welcome to attend and the Social and Cultural committee will provide festive fare.
Congratulations to all involved in the recent production of My Fair Lady which was excellent indeed. My thanks to teachers Lisa Bennett, Róisín Lavery and Emma Chawke who devoted themselves to the task over the last few months and succeeded in providing so many TY students with an uplifting and unforgettable experience.
I wish to congratulate also 5th year student Iona Logan who participated recently in the first Youth Climate Assembly as a delegate. This was a fitting honour for Iona who has committed herself to raising awareness in this area for some time now.
Best of luck to second year students Taibou Gavi and Aoibhe O’Halloran whose project has been accepted to the 2020 BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition.
Details of our Christmas study programme are posted on our website. Please note the numbers are limited so book soon if you are interested. Naturally the programme will allow for breaks and rest over the Christmas period which are essential.
We will hold the first of our PT meetings on Thursday 28 November for parents and teachers of 3rd years, and for TY students on 5 December. The meetings run from 4.15-6.45 pm.
Thanking you all again for your support, with best wishes for now,
