Walk for the Bus Sponsored Walk
On Friday, 10th May, a sponsored walk took place in Ballinacurra to raise funds for the Community Bus in Our Lady of Lourdes. This bus takes some of our students to school each day as well as transporting students to various extra and co-curricular activities throughout the year at a very reasonable cost.
Crescent participates in the Local Education Committee of Our Lady of Lourdes, along with the Primary school, Coláiste Nano Nagle and other community groups. Each year the committee chooses a theme for the year and this year it chose “My Space”. The idea behind this theme was to raise awareness of all that is on offer in our local community and school and to generate pride in our different ‘places’.
The sponsored walk was an effort to support the committee’s theme while also supporting a very worthwhile cause. It was organised by Transition Year students from Crescent College SJ. The students planned the route which went from the Primary School through the very pretty Baggot Estate nature walk and finished at Summerville Rovers FC pitch with a picnic and wind-down time. The students led 4 exercise stops along the way and boosted the mood with lively music. Pupils were encouraged to collect something from nature along the way to bring back to school and draw, to be made into a collage later. TY Students also designed the sponsorship cards which went out to all walkers, and approached local businesses to sponsor food and drink for the picnic.
The walk was a great success and the sun shone for the entire time, finally giving way to one shower of hailstones when we were on Summerville pitch. Thankfully, the management there kindly let us use their clubhouse for the picnic.
In total the walk raised over €1600 towards the cost of replacing the community bus and we thank all families and extended relatives and friends in Our Lady of Lourdes NS and at Crescent College for their contributions.
We would also like to thank the following sponsors for their support:
